Behavior
A bottom-dwelling fish. The first dorsal fin ray is modified into a fishing "lure" (illicium) used to attract prey. Hunts by ambush.
Features
Huge, flat head, very large mouth. Grows up to 2 m and over 50 kg. Can live 10-24 years.
Distribution
Found in the northeast Atlantic from Morocco to Norway and southern Iceland. In Germany found in the North Sea.
