Behavior
The lake-resident ecotype of the brown trout, living its whole life in the cold deep layers of lakes. Feeds on crustaceans, insects, and bottom-dwelling organisms.
Features
Usually larger than river-dwelling individuals. Spindle-shaped, slightly compressed, brown with a silvery belly and black spots ringed in white. Up to 60 cm long.
Distribution
Found in European lakes. In Germany mainly in deep lakes at the northern edge of the Alps.
