Behavior
A bottom-dwelling shark, often forming large schools (up to 1000 individuals). Lives at depths of 10-200 m. Very long-lived, 35 to over 100 years.
Features
About 1 m long, up to 10 kg. A mildly venomous spine precedes each dorsal fin.
Distribution
Found in temperate to cold seas worldwide. In Germany found in the North Sea, Skagerrak, and Kattegat, but not the Baltic.
