Behavior
A bottom-dwelling flatfish over sand, rock, or mixed substrate. A left-eyed flatfish. Ambushes small bottom fish and crustaceans. Well camouflaged.
Features
Nearly round body, bony tubercles ("stones") covering the eyed side. Grows up to 1 m and 25 kg.
Distribution
Found in the northeast Atlantic from Norway to Morocco. In Germany found in the North Sea and Baltic Sea.
