Behavior
A bottom-dwelling flatfish over sand or mixed substrate. Forages in shallow water at night, burying itself in sand by day.
Features
A right-eyed flatfish (the left eye migrates to the right side). Orange to red spots along the flank. Colour can adapt to the substrate. Grows up to 1 m and 7 kg.
Distribution
Found in the northeast Atlantic from the White Sea to Gibraltar. In Germany mainly in the North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat, and the western Baltic up to the Gotland-Danzig line.
