Behavior
A shoaling fish; juveniles live close to shore, adults move into open sea. Lives at depths of 40-360 m.
Features
Usually 60 cm, up to 130 cm and 32 kg. Back nearly black, belly silvery. No barbel on the chin. Often sold commercially as "Seelachs".
Distribution
Found in the North Atlantic from Greenland/Iceland to the Bay of Biscay. In Germany found in the North Sea, also present in the Baltic.
