Native to rivers and shallow coastal waters draining into the Black Sea, Sea of Azov, and Sea of Marmara.
Features
Up to about 20 cm long.
Distribution
Native to the Black Sea and Sea of Azov basins. Spreading north via shipping (eggs attached to hulls). Established in the Rhine since 2006, and recorded in the upper Rhine near Mannheim since 2021. Has also colonized the Elbe, Danube, Moselle, and other major European rivers.
