A bottom-dwelling fish in clear, oxygen-rich, fast-flowing deep river stretches. Nocturnal, feeding on insect larvae, worms, and other bottom-dwelling invertebrates.
Features
Gill cover with several rows of scales. Highly sensitive to water pollution and barriers such as dams.
Distribution
Found in the Danube and Dniester basins. In Germany in the Danube system in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
