Behavior
An anadromous fish similar to the European sturgeon; lives at sea and migrates upstream to spawn over gravel once mature.
Features
Large (up to 4.3 m) with a relatively long snout. Numbers have collapsed due to overfishing, pollution, and dam construction.
Distribution
Historically native to the Baltic Sea and its tributaries. Now regionally extinct there; restoration projects are underway in Germany.
