Behavior
Lives mainly in large turbid rivers, nutrient-rich lakes, and brackish coastal waters. Solitary, bottom-dwelling, most active at dawn and dusk.
Features
Europe's largest native perch-family fish, with large, protruding eyes adapted for hunting in turbid water. Feeds on shoaling fish.
Distribution
Native to the Danube basin, now widespread across Europe through stocking. In Germany found in the Rhine, Moselle, and Weser, among others.
