A bottom-dwelling freshwater fish, up to 21.5 cm. In aquaculture, individuals have been observed floating at the water surface.

Features

Elongated body, tall skin fold on the caudal peduncle. Downward-facing mouth with 5 barbels on each side. Maximum weight 58 g.

Distribution

Native to China. Regularly imported to Europe from southern China; escaped individuals may occur in European waters. Occasionally recorded in Germany.
