Behavior

Lives in rivers, lakes, ponds, marshes, and rice paddies with still or slow-flowing water and muddy substrate. Forages for algae and other food on the bottom at night.

Features

Elongated, cylindrical body similar to the weatherfish, with 10 barbels.

Distribution

Native to Siberia, Korea, Japan, southern China, and northern Vietnam. Has established populations in Germany as a non-native species.
