Behavior
Adults live in still to slow-flowing waters and move about in large shoals. Omnivorous, feeding on insects, small crustaceans, molluscs, and plants.
Features
Usually 30-55 cm, up to 75 cm, weighing 2-4 kg. Spawns from April to June.
Distribution
Mainly found north of the Alps and Pyrenees and in the Balkans. In Germany common in calm areas of major lakes and rivers.
