Prefers bright, oxygen-rich, clear water. Fairly social, does well in groups of 4-6. Omnivorous, eating aquatic plants, fish eggs, and insect larvae.
Features
A world-famous ornamental fish originating in China. Extremely adaptable, tolerating both fresh and brackish water and temperatures from 4 to 34°C.
Distribution
Native to Asia, now introduced and widespread across Europe. In Germany mostly found in ornamental ponds and park waters.
