Behavior
Similar to the crucian carp, prefers shallow, plant-rich, muddy waters and overwinters in deeper water.
Features
Usually silvery, with larger scales than the crucian carp (27-32 scales along the lateral line) and a more deeply forked tail fin. Fast-growing and highly invasive.
Distribution
Found in slow-flowing rivers and lakes across Europe, North America, and Asia. Native from central Europe to Siberia, now widespread in Germany.
