Behavior
Prefers shallow, still or slow-flowing water rich in aquatic plants, usually staying near the bottom. Highly tolerant of low oxygen, and wary/alert by nature.
Features
Omnivorous; juveniles and adults feed similarly on organic detritus, aquatic plants, and insects. Spawns multiple times per season.
Distribution
Found in freshwater lakes, rivers, and reservoirs across many Asian and European countries. Widespread in Germany in still and slow-flowing waters.
