Behavior
Has two ecotypes: a landlocked form (living in freshwater its whole life) and an anadromous migratory form. The landlocked form lives in cold streams and deep lakes, feeding on insects, molluscs, and crustaceans.
Features
The freshwater fish that ranges farthest into the Arctic. Relatively slimy skin.
Distribution
Circumpolar in distribution. In Germany mainly in deep Alpine lakes.
