A bottom-dwelling fish, usually solitary. Lives at depths of 5-200 m. Feeds on small fish such as herring.
Features
Deep-bodied, strongly laterally compressed, with a distinctive black spot on the flank (the "mark of St. Peter"). Filamentous fin rays.
Distribution
Found in the northeast Atlantic from South Africa to Norway. In Germany found in the North Sea.
